A former Dumfries and Galloway College student is showing what is possible to anyone who has designs on making the most of their qualifications.
Navid Ali completed his HND in Visual Communication this summer – but he didn’t have too long to think about his next career move!
Kelloholm-based Browns Food Group were on the lookout for a Junior Designer so contacted the college to ask about any potential candidates before they considered advertised the position. The answer was an easy one: Navid.
The whiz kid, who spent his first year at college studying from home due to the Covid pandemic, has been a revelation after beginning his role with Browns.
A delighted David Sprott, Creative and Marketing Director at Browns Food Group, said: “Navid has been brilliant since he started and has really hit the ground running.”
“His software skills have been excellent, and he has already produced a concept for a packaging design that will soon be launching in Costco.”
“I provided some creative direction, but he was instrumental in coming up with the logo and design elements. He then took it into Adobe Dimensions to produce this visual for Costco to approve.”
Navid added: “I’m really enjoying the job and I want to thank the college for putting me forward for it.”
“I had a great time at college, even though half of it was working at home. I have learnt valuable skills that have helped me in the workplace, being more efficient and understanding what might be expected of me.”
College Principal Joanna Campbell said: “Everyone at Dumfries and Galloway College is thrilled to see one of our star students shining so brightly in the workplace.”
“Navid is a credit to himself – his hard work and dedication is paying off and hopefully he can inspire our students who aspire to making an impact after graduating.”
