DGC delighted to host CMI event on empowering managers

Dumfries and Galloway College (DGC) was delighted to recently host its first Chartered Management Institute (CMI) event at its Crichton Campus.

As part of the partnership with CMI since becoming an Accredited Learning Centre, the college welcomed guests Renee Raper, CMI Scotland Regional Board Chair, and Iain Tinniswood, of global engineering, management and development consultancy Mott Macdonald, to its Dumfries campus for the Empowering Managers – Inspiring Leaders evening.

The event provided a platform for insightful discussion, learning and networking, and addressed a theme highly relevant in today’s professional landscape: the ‘accidental manager’— a situation where employees find themselves in management roles without formal training.

Highlighting the challenges and opportunities that come with this common scenario, the evening underscored DGC’s commitment to providing meaningful management development in partnership with the CMI.

The event also served as a unique platform for the college to inform participants of CMI-accredited courses on offer, specifically designed to bridge the skill gaps in management. The college offers both Level 3 and Level 5 CMI management training, each providing unique benefits to employees and their organisations.

The courses focus on practical tools and techniques for effective leadership, providing new and aspiring managers with a structured learning path to confidently assume their roles. As a result, businesses in the region can anticipate stronger team cohesion, higher productivity, and more effective operational leadership.

Joanna Campbell, CEO and Principal, Dumfries and Galloway College, said: “Our Empowering Managers – Inspiring Leaders event hopefully provided a unique insight into the college’s partnership with the CMI.

“Dumfries and Galloway College is committed to leading the way with new initiatives and events designed to further careers and enhance professional development across the South of Scotland.

“As the college continues to collaborate with the CMI, it remains dedicated to supporting the development of managers, ultimately strengthening our region’s business environment by transforming ‘accidental managers’ into strategic leaders.”
