Dumfries and Galloway College (DGC) and the University of West of Scotland (UWS) are pleased to announce the launch of two new pathways to university.
Students can now start their journey with DGC from S5 and move up to degree level, all while studying in the same building at the college’s Dumfries campus.
The designated pathway courses — designed to broaden access to university degrees — will give learners the experience and skills to move seamlessly through to a degree with UWS in either Business Studies (BA Hons) or Computing Science (BSc Hons) for one year only. From 2024, this route will lead to studying Cyber Security (BSc Hons).
This pathway is ideal for students who show the talent and motivation to enter into degree level early.
They can effectively complete the full SCQF level 7 course in S6, meaning they would gain their degree just two years after leaving school.
These courses are also perfect for anyone who has previously studied up to HND level or who has significant experience in their chosen field and would like to continue their studies to degree level whilst studying locally in Dumfries.
DGC is committed to helping students gain a degree in a way that works around their lifestyle.
College Principal Joanna Campbell said: “Dumfries and Galloway College is pleased to partner with the University of West of Scotland to deliver two brand new pathway courses for students who wish to achieve a university degree.
“This is a great opportunity for people to study locally at our Dumfries campus and begin their journey to gaining a bachelor’s qualification.”
Julie Orr, UWS Campus Manager (Dumfries), said: “We have a fantastic partnership with Dumfries and Galloway College and are very proud of our new campus.
“We are working together for the benefit of local students and are committed to offering innovative pathways into higher education.
“These new courses provide exciting opportunities to those looking to continue their studies to degree level in these important subject areas.”
