Photography HND @ SCQF Level 8

Introduction

This course is designed to reflect the ever-changing professional photographic industry. You will be able to spend much of your time working on practical projects. You will have access to an excellent range of camera equipment, studios, film darkroom, digital darkroom, and Apple Mac facilities.  

You will be challenged to review your present thinking about photography and to build on that basis by means of practical work, discussion, and research. Live briefs and commercial projects are an integral part of the course

  • Independent study time is also required 

Entry Requirements

  • Completion of HNC Photography (15 credits)
  • Current college students will require a positive progressing learner reference and core skills development 
  • Successful interview  
  • Portfolio of work

Information and Interview Session Requirements

If you are progressing from our HNC you will not need to attend interview.  

For external applicants:   

Once we have received your application, where possible you will be asked to attend an interview. You must confirm your attendance. Your interview will last no more than 20mins and it is imperative you arrive on time, or you may be asked to reschedule. 

 

Please remember that you are required to submit a portfolio of work prior to your Information and Interview Session. Please send this in digital format to: admissions@dumgal.ac.uk 

Reviewing your portfolio will help our specialist staff to give you the best advice on which level of study and course is right for you. 

Applicants who do not bring their portfolio will be asked to reschedule their appointment. 

You may be asked to complete a skills test as part of your interview.

Course Content

The programme may include the following units: Architecture, Advertising, Documentary, Fashion, Advanced Image Editing, Moving Image, Stock, Social Photography, Exhibition, Digital Videos for Artists and Designers and Creative Industries an Introduction. The course content is subject to change. 

All SQA HN awards conclude with a graded unit. This is your opportunity to shine and complete an independent project that is graded A, B or C pass. Students review their strengths and agree on a set of projects that enable them to concentrate on a specific photographic sector.

Assessments

Assessments are practical and written.

Progression

Successful completion of the full HND Photography course will allow entry into the second or third year of a university degree course in photography or specialist area

Career Prospects

Successful students could find employment in a range of photographic careers including self-employment or photographic roles such as advertising, corporate, fashion, press, editorial, curating, picture research, fine art practice etc.
