Pathway to Employment (NQ) @ SCQF Level 3


What is so different about this course? 

This is an exciting college course that is jointly delivered by The Better Lives Partnership, Bridge to Employment Project (B2E@Wigtownshire) and Dumfries and Galloway College. This course could be for you if you feel you would benefit from having a supported learning environment to gain necessary knowledge and skills to help you prepare for the world of work.  If you want an environment that will help you realise what your key strengths are, support you in identifying and developing aspects that you need and want to progress to a supported employment programme, or directly into employment, then this course could be for you.

This is a full-time programme.  You will attend classes for a minimum of 2 days per week.

Entry Requirements

This course will be suitable for you if you are:   
  • A school leaver or progressing college student whose next steps is to develop skills for the world of work. 
  • An adult who has already left school and wishes to return to education on an employment pathway. 
  • You must be able to demonstrate your ability to work at this level, independently and with others. 

Information and Interview Session Requirements

This is a key aspect of your application process. You may be invited for interview to which you must attend. 

During the interview we will discuss your aspirations and future plans and ensure that this is an appropriate course to meet your needs.

Course Content

You will develop your confidence, personal and employability skills in a supported environment. Through a variety of subjects, you will be given support to design your own personal learning and support plan to meet your personal needs and aspirations. 

You may have the opportunity to participate in a work experience placement within the college or in a local supported employment setting. This course offers you a wonderful way to develop your skills and abilities towards supported employment or volunteering.


A variety of approaches are used, for example: practical assessments through observation, building portfolios of evidence of outcomes attained, oral presentations or questions and answer sessions. Assessment is ongoing throughout the session.


This course is designed as a stepping-stone into further supported employment programmes, to further training and education opportunities with employability as its key focus.  You may be able to progress directly to the following on successful completion of the course
  • Bridge to Employment (Better Lives Partnership, Stranraer)
  • Project Search (Dumfries campus)
  • Other college vocational courses

Career Prospects

Successful completion of this programme may offer you a pathway into employment or further supported employment programmes
