Fitness, Health and Exercise HNC @ SCQF Level 7
Introduction
This programme will give you an industry recognised qualification along with the key knowledge and practical skills required to pursue a career in the fitness, health and exercise industry. You will gain knowledge and expertise in a range of subjects including exercise programming, health screening, nutrition, first-aid for sport, exercise physiology, and anatomy.
The HNC in Fitness, Health and Exercise provides the opportunity to gain membership with Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
A PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check must be successfully completed as part of this course, you will be required to pay for this. You will also be required to purchase a sports kit.

Attendance: Full Time 2 or 3 days per week, additional hours for work experience and attendance in the evening may be required.
Entry Requirements
Two Highers at grade C or above; OR
SCQF level 6 qualification in a sports related subject; OR
Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
If you are currently studying at Dumfries & Galloway College, you will also require a positive progressing learner reference.

Information and Interview Session Requirements
Once we have received your application you will be given a date and time slot to take part in an interview. You must confirm this interview.
It is important that you prepare well for your interview. During the information and interview session, we will ensure the entry requirements and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for. During your Information and Interview Session, you will be expected to provide positive responses to questions relating to your course choice, your future career, and your previous experiences in sport & fitness.

- Plan, Teach and Evaluate Group Exercise Sessions
- Plan, Teach and Evaluate Gym Based Exercise Sessions
- Health Screening
- Strength and Conditioning

Assessments
Assessment is ongoing throughout the year and includes practical assessments and project work.
Progression
Students may apply to progress to the HND Fitness, Health, and Exercise or dependent on the university you may be able to gain entry to 1st or 2nd year of study on related degree programmes.
