Business and Enterprise (NQ) @ SCQF Level 6

Introduction

This course is the ideal starting point for a career in the business world, providing you with progression opportunities onto further study and employment.  

It will enable you to acquire knowledge and understanding of the role and operation of a business, to develop analytical skills, to apply skills to business situations and to enhance your communication skills. 

The course can provide the incentive for you to go into a career in Business or consider the prospect of establishing your own business. The underpinning knowledge and understanding gained from the course will be a valuable resource for you to explore this route. 

The course provides an excellent broad knowledge of Business, Enterprise and Business Management related topics and allows students to develop their IT application skills in Microsoft Office.

Entry Requirements

One of the following:  

  • 4 National 4 awards 
  • 3 Intermediate 2 awards 
  • 3 National 5 awards at C or above 
  • 4 Standard Grades at 3 or above 
  • 4 Intermediate 1 awards 
  • equivalent qualifications.  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft packages is also advantageous 

Entry may be possible for mature students depending on their prior knowledge and experience. 

Applicants may have to attend an Interview prior to being offered a place on the course.

During the Interview Session, we will ensure the entry requirements and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of learning you have applied for. It is therefore important that you prepare well for this.

Course Content

The programme enables you to learn subjects such as Crime in Society, Scots Law, Personal Development, Enterprise, Management of People and Finance, Contemporary Business Issues, Understanding Business, Marketing and Customer Care and you will have the opportunity to improve your core skills profile.

Assessments

There is no formal exam. You will be required to undertake continual assessments throughout the year. These will take the form of written, oral, team projects and role play.

Progression

Provides the entry requirements to a range of related courses at Higher National Certificate level or entry into the MA Business degree (in partnership with UWS (University of West of Scotland)). 

If you are currently studying at the College, you will also require a positive Progressing Learner Reference. 

Career Prospects

Employment in a Business, Administration or Office environment at entry level.
