Introduction

This exciting course provides you with the required industry leading training & skills to enhance your career as a barber. You will develop an understanding of the skills required to plan and carry out gents haircutting services, including clippering and razoring, and scalp massage. You will be taught by a team of industry experts with a wealth of industry experience and expertise in Barbering. Their expertise will ensure your learning is at the centre of their teaching practice.

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements

Two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above; OR

Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

Additional selection requirements

Where English is not your first language - ESOL Intermediate 2 certificate required.

You will be require to be 16 years of age by 23 August 2021 to undertake this course

Additional Entry Requirements

You will need to provide notepads, pens and folders.

Smart casual dress code.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

Once we have received your application you will be asked to attend an informal information and interview session. This may be virtual either through TEAMS or by phone but remember to tell us all about yourself in your personal statement!

This is a key aspect of the application process. You must confirm your attendance should you be offered an appointment.

During the information and interview session, we will ensure the entry requirements and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for. It is therefore important that you prepare well for this.

Course Content

You'll study SQA accredited units, which include:-

- Gents Shaving: An Introduction
- Gents Cutting to Incorportae Clippering and Razoring
- Gents Scalp Massage

Assessments

Assessment methods include online from SQA and practical observed assessments within the classroom.

Progression

SVQ Barbering Level 3 Gents Hairdressing (SCQF Level 6) - please register your interest.

Career Prospects

It is expected that successful completion of these SCQF Level 5 units, may lead to employment in a trainee position in the Hairdressing industry, specifically barbering.
This is not an award which is expected to take the student directly into full time employment as a fully qualified barber.

Ultimately, with further study and/or training there may be a range of self-employment opportunities and career options within the sector, for example:

Barber

Lecturer in Further Education

Trainer in Private Centre

Barber on cruise ships

Barber within large hotel groups

Barber within a Hairdressing Salon.

You will be able to apply for training positions within the Barbering industry and Further Education.
