The challenging sports and fitness curriculum covers both practical and theory-based skills. You will gain an all-round understanding of the field.

The course will help you to become a leader in the field. You will develop the ability to plan and deliver sport and fitness activities, honing your leadership skills to inspire others. You will gain a qualification in leadership too.

Employability – you will be using Teams a lot – where your progress can be tracked and it is an easy communication tool for you, your classmates and your lecturers.

Duration

Full Time 2 or 3 days per week, additional hours for work experience and attendance in the evening may be required.

Entry Requirements

  • Three National 5 Awards or equivalent, or
  • Successful completion of a SCQF Level 5 Sport & Fitness Programme, or
  • Other qualifications and/or experience

You will join the PVG scheme (criminal records check) this is to ensure you can continue on your chosen career path as well as attend placement in settings where there may be children or vulnerable adults.

If you are currently studying at Dumfries & Galloway College, you will also require a positive progressing learner reference – which you can demonstrate from good attendance and engagement on your current course.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

Once we have received your application you may be given a date and time slot to take part in an interview. This may be face to face or by phone.

It is important that you put effort into your application, using your own words. This allows us to ensure the entry requirements are met and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for.

When you apply you will be expected to provide positive responses to questions relating to your course choice, your future career, and your previous experiences in sport & fitness.

  • Exercise and Fitness (Cardiovascular, Free Weight and Circuit Training)
  • Volunteering
  • Marketing
  • Sport Development
  • Sports Coaching/Leadership
  • Reflection on your meta-skills development
  • You will prepare for employment
  • You will be given guidance on your chosen career path and potential for further study
  • Your digital and IT skills will be developed using Teams

Assessments

Assessment is ongoing throughout the year and includes practical assessments and project work
