You’ll be introduced to a range of skills, both sporting and academic. At SCQF level 5 these experiences are not all easy – but we have a great team of lecturers and support staff to help you through.
Part of the course includes employability – so attendance and engagement is crucial to ensuring those eligible can receive EMA or Bursary payments. It’s also crucial for your learning and for success at the end of the course.
There is lots of practical activity as well as academic classroom work. We use Teams a lot to communicate with each other and submit work as well as tracking your progress so, you’ll develop your IT skills too.
Whether you dream of becoming a personal trainer, sports coach, fitness instructor, or want to explore the many other exciting roles within the industry, this course opens doors to a multitude of career pathways and progression.

Full Time 2 or 3 days per week, additional hours for work experience and attendance in the evening may be required.
Entry Requirements
- Four National 4 awards or equivalent, or
- Other qualifications and/or experience
You will undergo a PVG (criminal records check) to ensure you can progress within this industry and gain employment. This is because your placements may be in settings with children and/or vulnerable adults.
If you are currently studying at Dumfries & Galloway College, you will also require a positive progressing learner reference.

Once we have received your application you may be given a date and time slot to take part in an interview. This can be face to face or over the phone.
It is important that you put effort into your application. This allows us to ensure the entry requirements are met and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for.
You will be expected to provide positive responses to questions relating to your course choice, your future career and your previous experiences in sport & fitness.

Assessments
Assessment is ongoing throughout the year and includes practical assessments and project work.
