Introduction

This is an SCQF level 5 numeracy unit which has been contextualised specifically for those

who may be considering a career in health and social care. It is one unit that requires a

notional forty hours of mostly independent study.

You will be able to interpret and apply numerical information all of which is based within

everyday activities in a care setting.

The unit will aim to foster safe and effective health and social care practice by ensuring you

possess the necessary numerical skills to calculate dosages, monitor and record vital signs,

interpret medical chart data and make informed decisions.

At this level it will introduce critical thinking skills relevant to patient care, which enhances

understanding of evidence based practice. You will develop metaskills of sense making and

problem solving.

Assessments are multiple choice, scenarios, and a case study. Much of which is auto-

marked giving you instant feedback.
