Introduction

BEng Cyber Security will teach you how to protect and secure modern data infrastructure. The course will allow you to develop many industry relevant skills based around the ethical hacking framework underpinned by a thorough understanding of both networking and programming theory.

As the country’s security and prosperity rests on digital foundations, it has never been more important to be protected from those who seek to exploit weaknesses and launch attacks.

The course has been created to meet a growing need as identified by the Scottish and UK governments for individuals who possess a skill set to meet the challenges posed by the constantly evolving computer systems.

Duration

Attendance 4-8 years depending on mode of study and level of entry. Year 3 is full time only, 1 ½ days per week blended delivery.

Entry Requirements

Entry for years one please see HNC Cyber Security

Entry for year 3, an HND Cyber Security or related subject.

We welcome all Scottish, UK and International students and consider all applicants on an individual basis.

For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language Proficiency level.

Course Content

Throughout your studies you will study a wide range of topics including operating and computer system security, wireless networks, under security intrusion detection and prevention and network security auditing and monitoring.

Assessments

The overall assessment strategy ensures that a coherent balance of assessment is in place and that assessment supports employability and other complex learning intentions. In real terms this means you will study a mixture of assessment formats.

Progression

You can continue with your degree to honours level with UWS.

Career Prospects

Graduates of the degree will be looking to progress towards roles such as chief security engineer or chief security officer in sectors such as healthcare, banking and finance and various security related public sector organisations.
