Introduction
The Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) in Professional Cookery recognise the knowledge and skills of candidates working in the hospitality sector. These vocational qualifications are based on the standards developed by People 1st, the sector skills council for hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism. This Modern Apprenticeship is intended for people who are employed as chefs, trainee chefs or cooks, within the hotel, restaurant, café or workplace canteen industry.

This Modern Apprenticeship can be completed over 1 to 2 years.
Entry Requirements
National 3, Access 3 or above
Course Content
Various units which total 14 will be chosen by you the candidate and your appointed assessor which suit your working environment.
You will also need to attend college on day release to complete mandatory enhancements such as REHIS Food Hygiene and REHIS Health & Safety.
Assessments
Work plans and up-loading of information will be required throughout your Modern Apprenticeship as will taking online tests to establish your progression.
Progression
Candidates who successfully complete their SCQF Level 5 (SVQ2) can progress onto an SCQF Level 6 (SVQ3) Professional Cookery this could also open up opportunities for further employment or promotion within the hospitality industry.
Career Prospects
To work as a chef or head chef in establishments, such as cafes, hotels, pubs, school kitchens and day centres.
