Introduction

This course builds upon your hairdressing skills, enabling you to master more innovative techniques tailored to the demands of the hairdressing industry. Throughout our practical units, you will not only refine your current abilities but also build creativity and advanced techniques.

Our lecturers bring extensive knowledge and experience in both hairdressing and effective teaching practices. They are committed to continuous professional development to stay current within our ever-evolving industry.

The course is designed to be highly interactive, using a range of teaching methods to meet your learning and development goals. While the units are guided by lecturers, you are encouraged to take an active role in your own learning journey.

With strong connections to the industry, you will be required to attend a placement in a hairdressing salon as part of your programme, ensuring hands-on experience alongside your studies.

Upon successful completion, you will earn a Level 6 National Certificate Group Award in Hairdressing.

Duration

Full Time Attendance 2 or 3 days per week. 1 year (36 weeks), Please note this may be subject to change. Additional hours for work experience attendance in the evening may be required.

Entry Requirements

SCQF level 5, SVQ level 2 in Ladies Hairdressing or other equivalent qualifications or experience. You must be 16 years of age by the course start date to undertake this course.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

Once your application is received, you will be invited to attend an informal information and interview session. You will need to participate in a face-to-face interview. This session may include both group and individual interviews, where you can learn more about the course and share why you are interested in the subject.

This is an essential part of the application process, and you must confirm your attendance if you are offered an interview. During the session, we will review your qualifications, career goals, and aspirations to ensure that the course level is suitable for you and to check you have the correct entry requirements. Therefore, it’s important to prepare well for the interview.

Work experience is an essential part of the course. You would be at an advantage to be in employment in the hairdressing industry for the duration of this course.

Assessments

The course combines theory and practical subjects, designed to help you reach your full potential. Our dedicated teaching team use diverse blended learning methods to keep you engaged throughout your studies and to provide comprehensive support for every aspect of your course.

Assessments are continuous throughout the course and cover both theory and practical elements. Various assessment methods are used, including practical, closed book assessment, and portfolio building.

This is a full-time program that also requires additional home study.

The National Certificate in Hairdressing at level 6 has been designed to progress to:

HNC in Hairdressing (SCQF Level 7)
HNC Fashion Make-up (SCQF Level 7)
HND Make-up Artistry TV, Film and Theatre (SCQF Level 8)
HND Beauty Therapy (SCQF&#nbsp;Level 8)
