Introduction
This multi-skills Hairdressing course combines practical training and knowledge of theory to cover all aspects of hairdressing. You’ll learn a variety of techniques while gaining valuable hands-on experience.
If you are looking to build a career in hairdressing, this course will help you develop the foundational skills needed for success. You will also have opportunities to participate in various activities such as competitions, presentations, training workshops, and demonstrations.
With strong industry connections, the department emphasises work experience as a key component of the course. You will be assigned a salon to attend during your work placement unit, however, part-time salon employment would be beneficial to gain an insight into salon life and build practical skills.

Entry Requirements
Minimum entry requirements:
Two National 4 qualifications, SCQF Level 4 English or ESOL Level 4; OR
other equivalent qualifications or experience.
You are required to be 16 years of age by the start date of your course to undertake this programme.

Information and Interview Session Requirements
Once your application is received, you will be invited to attend an informal information and interview session. You will need to participate in a face-to-face interview. This session may include both group and individual interviews, where you can learn more about the course and share why you are interested in the subject.

During the session, we will review your qualifications, career goals, and aspirations to ensure that the course level is suitable for you and to check you have the correct entry requirements. Therefore, it’s important to prepare well for the interview.

Work experience is an essential part of the course. You would be at an advantage to be in employment in the hairdressing industry for the duration of this course.
Assessments
The course combines theory and practical subjects, designed to help you reach your full potential. Our dedicated teaching team use diverse blended learning methods to keep you engaged throughout your studies and to provide comprehensive support for every aspect of your course.
Assessments are continuous throughout the course and cover both theory and practical elements. Various assessment methods are used, including practical, closed book assessment, and portfolio building.
This is a full-time programme that also requires additional home study.
Progression
Ladies Hairdressing at SCQF level 6.
You may wish to seek employment within a salon as junior stylist to gain further experience within the industry to help you with your progression into SCQF level 6 hairdressing.

With an SCQF Level 5 Hairdressing qualification, you open the door to a variety of career opportunities in the hair and beauty industry. While this is considered an entry-level to intermediate qualification, it provides a solid foundation for further growth. Here are some potential career prospects:
