Introduction

This course is for students who have completed HNC Business and who want to progress to a degree in business studies or into employment in business-related disciplines.

This course is equivalent to the second year of degree study. We offer this course as a standalone HND or as part of a three-year programme which will allow you to graduate with the University of West of Scotland Management degree, which is also available on campus at Dumfries & Galloway College.

Opportunities exist to enable learners to attend part-time on an individual subject basis.

Full Time: 2-2.5 days per week, independent study is required

The programme is delivered through blended delivery (face to face and remote).

Entry Requirements

The HND Business is a 30 credit, 2- year programme with the HNC Business course covering the first 15 credits over the first year.

– Successful completion of HNC Business (15 credits).
– Successful completion of HNC Business from another establishment.

If you are currently studying at the College, you will also require a Positive Learner Reference.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

There are no interview arrangements for this course due to entry criteria being progression from HNC Business.

Course Content

You will learn about Business Culture & Strategy, ICT in Business, Statistics for Business, Preparing Financial Forecasts, Behavioural Skills for Business, Business Law, Business Contractual Relationships, Grievance & Discipline Handling, Economics: Micro & Macro and Economics: World Economy within this updated course.

Assessments

The year is divided into 3 teaching blocks, so assessment is spread evenly throughout the course. There are opportunities for re-assessment throughout the year.

Assessment methods may include individual and group projects, presentations, written assignments, and practical exercises,

There is an end of year graded project.

Progression

Successful completion of the full HND Business course will allow entry into the third year of the UWS Business degree, delivered at Dumfries & Galloway College.

This HND will prepare you for entry to a wide range of positions such as Admin Officer; Administration Supervisor; Assistant Manager; Business Development Assistant; Business Manager; Finance Assistant; Purchasing Officer; Office Manager; Planning Officer; Sales Coordinator; Team Leader or Trainee Manager.
