Introduction
During this course you will develop your skills in Art & Design through Illustration, printmaking and mixed media.
You will develop an understanding of the design process, research development and skills in developing and presenting design work and obtain basic knowledge and skills in the use of selected software packages.
The course also enables you to understand Art & Design to a more in-depth level, to evaluate your own work and the work of others and start your journey in Creative Practice.

Entry Requirements
- No formal academic qualifications are required
- You will need to be able to demonstrate your ability to study at level 5
- A keen interest in creative work

Course Content
- You will have the opportunity to develop skills in a range of visual art specialisms which are relevant to current and future practice in art & design
- You will investigate and apply mixed media techniques in a design context.
- Apply media handling skills to a given illustration brief and produce a finished illustration
- Complete units such as Introduction to Mixed Media, Art & Design Printmaking and Introduction to Illustration

Assessments
Assessment methods may include individual and group projects, presentations, written assignments, and practical exercises,
The year is divided into 3 teaching blocks, so assessment is spread evenly throughout the course. There are opportunities for re-assessment throughout the year.
Progression
There will be progression opportunities into the full-time programme Foundation in Creative Industries @ SCQF Level 6 programme or Foundation Apprenticeship to Creative Practice @SCQF Level 6 (Senior Phase only).
Career Prospects
NPA’s can assist students in developing employability skills through the development of underpinning and specific skills but would not normally qualify for employment.
Further study could then lead to employment in a range of careers including illustrator, art therapist, teaching, craft, design, or freelance creative practitioner.
