Dumfries and Galloway College (DGC) was honoured to host SECTT’s Apprentice of the Year competition for all colleges in the West of Scotland at its Crichton Campus in Dumfries.
And the event ended in delight for DGC as student Reece Irving was amongst the prize-winners.
Each year, SECTT (Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust) collaborates with lecturers to select an overall first and second-stage apprentice for their respective colleges. The candidates are those who have excelled at college and are performing impressively on-site with their employers.
The competition unfolds in three regional heats covering the north, west, and east regions of the country, incorporating all 22 approved centres, with winners from each regional heat advancing to the Apprentice of the Year final in Edinburgh.
Reece, from Dumfries, and an apprentice with Derek Mitchell Group in Dumfries, won the second year apprentice of the year for the West Region and now progresses to the final.
Another DGC apprentice, Thomas Rae also took part in the first-year competition. He works for Lotus Electrical in Dumfries.

“It was a thrill to see Reece wow the judges and make it through to the grand final in Edinburgh — and everyone at DGC will be rooting for him once again.”
