Introduction

This course is designed to support school students who may be considering one of the College’s supported learning courses after leaving school and provides an enhanced transition to college. The course will support students to develop skills that will support them for life and develop necessary skills required post-secondary education.

Pathway opportunities include progression to our Lifeskills or self-development pathway courses to further develop skills to promote independence and self- development.

You will develop personal and social skills and will be given support to develop your confidence and readiness for moving to college environment.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements are

  • No formal academic qualifications are required.
  • you will take part in an interview/transition process to establish if this course is suitable for you.
  • you must also be able to demonstrate your ability to work with some degree of independence as well as with others.
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to learn and develop skills.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

You may be invited to attend an interview and information session.

This is a key aspect of the application process. You must confirm your attendance should you be offered an appointment. During the information and interview session, we will ensure the entry requirements and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for. It is therefore important that you prepare well for this.

Course Content

You will be learning through three main themes on our course;

Skills for Life
Self and Others
Employment

You will be learning and developing skills through topics such as personal awareness, motivation and team building which will be delivered in a supportive online learning environment.

Assessments

A variety of approaches are taken to assessment, for example: practical assessments through observation, building portfolios of evidence of outcomes attained, oral presentations or questions and answer sessions. Assessment is ongoing throughout the session.

Successful completion can provide the opportunity to

  • Apply for a programme within our supported learning programmes including PACE- Self-development pathway, Lifeskills or Project Search- supported employment programme.
