Introduction

This course will help you to gain employment in restaurants, hotels, and conference centres. If you are interested in a career in hospitality, then this course is the one for you. This coursecovers all aspects of working in the hospitality industry.

You willlearn about all the different places you can work (from hotels to cruise ships), looking at the different job roles in hospitality and how your career can progress. You will also find out about the key skills required to work in Tourism and how Tourism and Hospitality work together.

You will learn about customer care and will gain the practical experience needed to become a Barista.You will organise an event at the end of your course to showcase the skills that you have gained throughout the year.

The College Academy Programme offers students a specialized pathway to build a career in the dynamic world of hospitality and cookery. Participants can choose between two options tailored to their interests: a dedicated Hospitality Course or a combined Hospitality and Cooking Course.

The Hospitality Course focuses on essential skills such as customer service, event management, and operational strategies for hotels and restaurants, preparing students for leadership roles in the industry. Alternatively, the combined programme integrates these core hospitality skills with hands-on culinary training, allowing students to master the art of cooking while gaining an in-depth understanding of the broader hospitality, events and tourism landscape.

Entry Requirements

An interest in hospitality/Barista would be an obvious benefit to the learner.
An ability to study at SCQF level 4.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

There are no requirements for an interview for this course, but you should have a basic knowledge and an interest in the industry with a view to potentially looking to have a career within it if you would like to join this course.

Upon completion of the programme, you can progress to a range of full-time and part-time professional cookery and hospitality courses at Dumfries & Galloway College.

Career Prospects

You could progress into Hospitality at SCQF levels 5/6 and/or seek employment in the industry.
