Introduction

Esports is one of the fastest growing professional sports in the world, with a projected forecast of a global worth of more than £4.6 billion by 2029.

This course will give you an introduction into E-sports and advise you how you can progress within the computing industry which extends far beyond games development and Esports, with a variety of computing technologies through to our degree programme in partnership with UWS.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required; however, it is desirable that students possess one of the following:

Core Skills in ICT or Numeracy at SCQF Level 4/5

National Units in Computing or Maths

Information and Interview Session Requirements

There are no requirements for an interview for this course, but you should have a basic knowledge and an interest in the industry with a view to potentially looking to have a career within it if you would like to join this course. This should be reflected in your application form.

Course Content

The programme offers you the opportunity to attain the SQA National Progression Award in E-sports. With units such as an introduction to Esports, explore video game characters, narrative and design as well as the creation of an Esports brand, organisation of an Esports tournament and live-stream broadcasting.

Assessments

There is no formal exam. You will be required to undertake continual assessments throughout the year. These will take the form of written, oral, individual and team projects.

Progression

Completion of the course may lead to progression to Advanced Computing at SCQF Level 6 and future study such as HNC Cyber Security or entry into the Batchelor of Engineering Cyber Security degree (in partnership with UWS).

Career Prospects

Through further study students could access career opportunities such as Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Analyst, Data Engineer, Data Scientist, Systems Analyst.
